Robin Hanley > For by you, I advance through a troop. By my God,
I leap over a wall.
As for God, his way is perfect.
The word of the LORD is tried. He is a Shield to all
those who take refuge in him.
For who is God, except the LORD? Who is a rock,
besides our God,
The God who arms me with strength, and makes
my way perfect?
He makes my feet like deer's feet, And sets me on my
high places. He teaches my hands to war;
So that my arms bend a bow of bronze.
-KING DAVID Psalm 18

Read the stunning exposition of this soldier of Israel,
a reminder of the deep historic roots of Israel's battlefields written by
Dan Gordon, Captain, I.D.F. (Res) the soldier in my picture
during Israel's recent war.

The sixth-century cliff-hanging complex, with its ancient chapel and gardens, is still inhabited by a few Greek Orthodox monks. It is reached by a pedestrian bridge across the Qelt River canyon, which many believe to be Psalm 23's Valley of the Shadow, and where shepherds still watch over their flocks, just as Ezekiel 34 and John 10:1-16 describe.
The valley parallels the old Roman road to Jericho, the backdrop for the parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:29-37).
